I Didn’t Want Another Linksys, But I’m Glad I Bought the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N
When my old Linksys G router stopped working, I called customer service hoping for some sort of support in order to get the router up and running again. Unfortunately for me, I was told by the customer service help that my Linksys G was out of warranty, and they refused to give me help over the phone. Oh, but they gave me an option of course, for $30.00 they would be happy to assist me with getting my router back up and running!
There was no way they were getting $30.00 out of me! What kind of customer service is Linksys running over there? I argued with the rep for a bit, and finally hung up. I could barely even understand what she was saying due to her heavy accent. Why would I pay someone $30.00 when they could barely even speak directions to me in my language? I hung up and decided to never again buy a Linksys router.
Unfortunately after giving Netgear a chance with their RangeMax router, I ended up returning it due to the poor signal strength. I swallowed my pride and bought a Linksys. A Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router, Model #WRT610N.
When I returned the NetGear, a new sales rep at Radio Shack told me to go with the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N. He told me this model would offer the best signal strength. I was hesitant because the last guy who sold us the NetGear promised the same thing.
I shrugged, and, aggravated and annoyed, I told him to ring me up. The frigging Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N came to a jaw dropping $89.99, which was a hell of a lot more money than I had paid for the RangeMax. I sighed, and added the additional fee to my credit card. I told him if it sucked, I would be back for a full refund.
Features (5 out of 5)
The Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N works in two radio bands at the same time. Basically it delivers twice the bandwidth, which means a faster network. It is like two networks packed into one sleek package!
The router delivers smooth high definition video, lag free and boot free gaming, and uninterrupted streaming music on one high-speed 5GHz network radio band.
On the other band the router delivers a 2.4 GHz network for browsing on the Internet, file sharing, emailing, and printing. Had these features all been added to one radio band, the network would have worked a lot slower, online gaming would lag, and likely caused a few boot-offs here and there.
The router also features Entertainment Optimized Networking technology, which prioritizes network traffic to be sure that high definition (HD) video streams flawlessly, as well as other applications which are time-sensitive to work quickly and efficiently.
The router also has its antennas hidden within the sleek, slim design. There are three of them total. Wireless transmission speeds are also set at a cool 54 bps.
Basically, the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N is fast. It will hold your connections without dropping them, online video gaming will run flawlessly without lag, and streaming video will run without any interruptions. You just sit back and enjoy your new high speed dual network!
Appearance (5 out of 5)
Out of the box, the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router really impressed me with its slim black high gloss look. It matched nearly all of my other electronic goodies to the tee with its modern slim-gem appearance, and frankly I liked it a lot.
Before I fell in love with it though, I had to keep reminding myself, “It’s a Linksys, it’s a Linksys, Linksys bad! Linksys no help you! Linksys bad.”
But, alas, the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router was sexy. I could rest it right up on my counter next to my printer without it ever getting in the way, taking up space, or looking like a sore thumb.
It has an odd shape to it, which sort of reminds me of a misshaped scallop shell. Out of the box it also came packed with an Ethernet cable which I appreciated because I would have had to drive all the way back to Radio Shack for a cable. In the box there is also an AC Plug for you to plug the router in.
The back of the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router has an Internet plug for you to plug the Ethernet in to and in to the PC. There are also 4 available Ethernet ports to hook up other peripherals if need be. Nearly everything I have, however, is wireless, so I never needed to use the extra ports. Having them there though is nice.
Ease Of Setup (5 out of 5)
I imagined setting the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N up would offer a lot of headaches. However I was pleasantly surprised at how easily everything came together, and how quickly I was able to get my new network up and running.
The router comes with an installation CD which guided me through the set up process. Everything was written out neatly, and was very easy to follow. The included installation CD is perfectly set up for new users to understand how to get their network up and running. I wish it was this easy when I got my first Linksys G router.
No less than 5 minutes later my network was up and running.
Signal Strength (5 out of 5)
This was going to either make or break the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N. If the signal strength upstairs was poor like the NetGear that I returned, then I would be returning this Linksys router as well. I wanted at least a 90% signal strength upstairs.
After installing the Linksys, I went upstairs to set up the XBOX 360 to work on the network. After entering my WEP Key into the XBOX 360’s Internet settings, I was happily surprised to see that the signal strength was a solid 100% signal. Gaming sessions were flawless with absolutely no booting off!
The desktop and laptop that we use upstairs also had a nice solid 100% connection!
As far as signal strength goes, the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N managed to win me over. I was even able to take my laptop outdoors and still get a decent signal. This is very impressive considering the router is set up in our downstairs basement.
Overall (5 out of 5)
To put it simply, the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router is mint. I have never experienced perfect signal strength before owning this router. My connections are all lightning fast, online gaming sessions are never lagging nor interrupted.
We have a wireless ROKU box which runs on the network. It delivers streaming Netflix video in HD to our HDTV without any interruptions or lag.
We also have quite a few different wireless devices hooked up to the network as well, and all of them have worked flawlessly. Since owning the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N I have not once experienced a dropped signal.
Although customer service reeks, the router is top notch and I could not recommend it more.
If you are looking for the best of the best, than I would have to say that yes, this particular router will deliver everything you have been looking for. Great signal strength, even outdoors, lag free gaming, flawless video streaming, and high speed Internet browsing - it’s all jam packed into the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this router.
One Thing That Bothers Me
We picked up the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N around 7 or 8 months ago for $89.99 at Radio Shack. Now usually when products get a little old the price drops by a few dollars, however this is not the case at all with the Linksys Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router Model #WRT610N, I am disappointed to see that Linksys has raised the price on this particular model by close to $100.00!!!
I know the router works really, really well, but jacking up the price to a disgusting range of $169.99 to $179.99 is a pretty awful thing to do considering it was previously found in stores for under $100.00.
