Ciclesonide Side Effects

Ciclesonide is a steroid drug used to treat airway obstruction caused by hay fever and allergies. These conditions cause symptoms such as runny nose, nasal irritation, sneezing, stuffy nose, and nasal discomfort. It is available in a nasal spray so the drug is delivered directly to the nasal passages.

Certain people should not use this drug. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, asthma, lung infections, unhealed sores of the nose. Inform your doctor if you have had nasal surgery or if you are using other steroid drugs. Do not take this drug if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Ciclesonide side effects can occur even when this drug is used properly. The most common side effects of this medication include bloody nose, headache, fever, sore throat, nasal discomfort, muscle aches, stuffy nose, weakness, fatigue, and runny nose. Rare, but still possible, side effects include acne, burning of the skin, blurred vision, darkening of the skin, diarrhea, trouble breathing, dizziness, difficulty swallowing, fainting, eye pain, hives, loss of vision, loss of appetite, menstrual change, depression, nausea, wheezing, tightness in the chest, vomiting, and swelling of the face and eyes. If any of these side effects occur, consult a medical professional.

Ciclesonide poses several risks for people using the drug. The immune system can weaken while this drug is being used. This increases susceptibility to infections caused by bacteria and viruses, and may also increase the risk of developing sores in the throat or nose. Delayed growth may occur in children who are using ciclesonide. This presents as a failure to grow taller or gain weight. This drug can also suppress the activity of the adrenal gland, which can cause adrenal hormone imbalances.

Inform your doctor about all prescription and over the counter drugs you are taking or have taken within two weeks of starting this drug. Herbal supplements, vitamins, and minerals may interact with this and other drugs, so tell your doctor if you are taking a multivitamin or any herbs.

If you experience the symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention. These symptoms include wheezing, skin rash, swelling of the face and lips, and difficulty breathing.
