Four Free Script Fonts

For an elegant inscription, Chopin Script is ideal. This graceful font can be used for far more than just titles: while it is somewhat incomplete, missing certain symbols and accented letters, it has the majority of the characters that you will need to set most text. Even with the elegant swirls that adorn each capital letter in the typeface, Chopin Script is still easy to read on invitations, awards and other desktop publishing projects that require a script font.

While many fonts meant to mimic handwriting wind up looking less than elegant, Jane Austen is a typeface with some real style. The font's characters are based on old-fashioned, yet attractive handwriting and it is complete to the point of including each accented letter. Using this script font can lend a sense of tradition to any project: it's a graceful script that can substitute for handwritten calligraphy.

No one would mistake Cursive for handwritten calligraphy — but it is a well-crafted font that offers an easy-to-read script font. Each letter in the set is written in cursive, although flourishes are minimized in favor of legibility. The font is also mostly complete, only lacking a few of the more obscure symbols and accents. If you do find yourself with a project where you need to set a large body of text in a script font, Cursive is a great option.

For a more modern feel to your script font, take a look at Honey Script. While this typeface has the style and flourishes normally associated with a script font, it also has an updated sense of style: many script fonts feel like they wouldn't be out of place a century ago, but Honey Script is definitely from a more recent era. The font includes not only the standard letters and numbers, but also the symbols and accented letters you may need if you plan to use this typeface extensively.
