The Samsung Galaxy S I9000 is set to release soon and is touted to be the best Samsung smartphone ever. It is supposed to take over the reins of Samsung’s Android segment from the Samsung Galaxy i7500 and the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700. With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S I9000, Samsung will have Android models at every price point - Spica i5700 as the budget offering, i7500 as the mid level handset and the Galaxy S as the high end smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S I9000 Preview

The Samsung Galaxy S packs together some of the best hardware and a brilliant 4 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It comes with Android 2.1 (Eclair) but should get an update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) soon.

The processing is handled by a very capable ARM Cortex A8 processor at 1 GHz. It is supposed to have around 512 MB of RAM. It will have 16 GB internal memory and has support for up to 32 GB microSD cards. It sports all the connectivity options you will need - GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA support. It also has a GPS transceiver with A-GPS. It comes with a 1500 mAh battery.

On the multimedia side, it comes with a 5 MP camera with autofocus which can take pictures at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The image capture quality is supposed to be excellent. It can handle 720p video recording at 30 FPS, making it one of the best smartphone video recorders. It comes with additional features like geotagging, touch focus, and face & smile detection.

It will come bundled with the Samsung TouchWiz 3.0 UI which has matured quite a lot and has come pretty close to HTC’s Sense UI in terms of usability and performance.

Besides these features, it will comes with Swype - a new text input system and includes support for direct playback of DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264 encoded videos. It is ideally suited for multimedia consumption and creation. It also comes with Word, Excel and Powerpoint document editor support.

All in all, it is the best Android smartphone and should directly compete with the iPhone 4.
