LG Versa (LG VX9600) Review

The LG Versa (LG VX9600) is a product from a well established cell phone manufacturing company. You can expect good build quality and a great user experience. The phone is an older model but it can satisfy almost your every need. The design of the phone suggests that it is meant for people who like a classic and simple look. The big screen is also a big plus and I especially like the attachable QWERTY keypad. This is a great feature that makes this phone unique. You can attach the keypad when you need to type fast, or just unplug it and use the virtual keyboard on the touchscreen.

Design of the LG Versa (4 out of 5)

The phone features a simple and clean design. The QWERTY keyboard comes in faux leather giving it a stylish look. The leather module with the full QWERTY keyboard can be attached on to the phone by removing the phone’s battery cover and aligning the keyboard contact pins. All of these steps make attaching the keyboard a little bit complicated. The leather casing has openings at the back for the camera and upfront for a small display that shows the date, time, signal strength, battery left and caller ID information. It comes only in black. The phone features a large 3 inch touchscreen with tactical feedback and can show 262K colors with a resolution of 480x240 pixels. The dimensions of this phone are 4.17 x 2.07 x 0.54 inches and it weights 3.18 oz.

User Interface of the LG Versa (LG VX9600) (3 out of 5)

The user experience is average. This phone doesn’t offer anything near the features that modern Android or iOS phones have and it won’t be making any best smartphones lists but it does the job. The menu is easy to use, all of the icons are easily recognizable and the applications open fast. A big drawback is the HTML browser that sometimes crashes and is unresponsive to tapping commands from the user. Features of the LG Versa (3 out of 5)

LG Versa 2

The connectivity of this phone offers features like: Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), Micro USB which can be used for data connection with your PC, HTML Web Browsing with Touch Navigation and Favorites, multiple window browsing which enables you to open up to 3 windows and EVDO Rev-A Data Transmission. The LG Versa doesn’t have Wi-Fi but it has Simultaneous GPS for enhanced location accuracy. It has 2.0 megapixel camera and camcorder with flash. The camera supports resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. From a software point of view, the camera has options like: SmartPic technology for improved image quality, Face Detection-automatically detects a face when taking a picture, up to 2x zoom, Image Editor with rotate, zoom, crop, add frames and other. It has a music player for MP3, WMA, unprotected AAC and AAC+ and it can play music in the background-multitasking. The LG Versa can record video at up to 640 x 480 pixels and has a built in video player for MP4, WMA, 3GP and 3G2 formats. Other features are: one touch speakerphone, voice recording, visual voicemail, V cast videos, In Line Flash, RSS support, built in accelerometer for automatic rotation of the screen when you rotate the phone in to landscape position and more.

Performance (3 out of 5)

The phone starts up quickly and navigating through the menu is fast. All applications start up quickly and respond to the commands promptly. The touchscreen is not great; it sometimes fails to respond to tapping. Another issue is the web browser that often freezes and is unresponsive. The battery is good for 290 minutes of talk time and up to 430 hours of stand by time.

The Verdict (3 out of 5)

The design and features of the LG Versa are not enough to choose this phone over other, more current smartphones. This phone, when it was first introduced on the market offered new and interesting features which are now outdated. In short, this phone can’t compete with its modern counterparts and isn’t worth investing in.
