Try these beneficial ingredients in your own recipe for natural homemade skin moisturizers.
For the water base, use any of the following ingredients either alone or in combination with others:
- Herbal teas
- Herbal infusions
- Aloe juice
- Honey
- Glycerin
- Distilled water.
Aloe juice is antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving. Honey and glycerin are humectants and draw moisture from the air and bind it to the epidermis. Herbs contain antioxidants and many other beneficial chemical agents like eugenol oil.
Use natural oils in your homemade moisturizer, and you can use one oil in your recipe or combine them as desired. Popular oils to use include:
- Olive oil
- Sesame oil
- Wheat germ oil
- Almond oil
- Avocado oil
Olive and almond oils are richer oils and best for dry skin. The other oils produce a less greasy moisturizer and are suitable for normal skin. Beeswax or borax can be used as emulsifiers. Find these natural products at local health food stores.
Homemade skin moisturizers contain no preservatives and have short shelf lives. Prepare in small batches and keep unused portions refrigerated to prevent rancidity. A natural homemade skin moisturizer for toddlers makes a perfect gift and can be used by the whole family.
