Top 5 Choices for Mac OS X Deleted File Recovery Software

written by: DeborahWoehr•edited by: Michael Dougherty•updated: 3/18/2011

Have you accidentally deleted an important file? Perhaps your hard drive crashed before you had a chance to back up your data. Whatever the case, I have found software that can help you retrieve deleted files or files that are stored on corrupted media.

    FileSalvage

FileSalvage FileSalvage is a Mac OS X deleted file recovery software that will recover your lost files, iTunes libraries, photos and any data that has been lost due to accidental deletion or corrupted media. It cannot recover files that have been overwritten by new data. Neither will it repair damaged files. It also cannot recover data that has been securely erased from a device or media.

Because FileSalvage is device and file system independent, you can recover your files from any media or file system that can be recognized in Mac OS X. This program also processes disk images, which means that defense attorneys and law enforcement can access EnCase®, Unix DD and CopyCatX image file systems without having to buy the computer forensics software to do it.

A free trial is available, if you would like to test out FileSalvage. The price is $89.95.

    Boomerang 2.0

Boomerang 2.0 Boomerang 2.0 has six brand new recovery models. Recover a disk that no longer mounts or is formatted. Boomerang will present a list of found partitions and files when it finishes scanning your disk. The RAID reconstructor will help you recover critical data. The iPhoto-like recovery tool will give you a visual preview of the photos that you lost. It will also help you scan for missing or deleted partitions and recover accidentally deleted files. You can also recover data from damaged iPods.

A free trial is available for Boomerang. After the trial expires, you have the option of buying one of three editions–the Boomerang Home Edition for $99.95, the SMB edition for $149.95 and the Professional for $199.95/Renewal $99.
