The Cessna 152 has a useable fuel capacity of 142 liters (37.5 gallons) and a total fuel capacity of 147 liters (38.8 gallons.) The average cost of aviation fuel is around $5.50 per gallon. Multiply the useable fuel capacity of 37.5 gallons to the price of $5.50 and you get $206.25.
The average fuel consumption of the Cessna 152 is 25 liters per hour, or around 7 gallons per hour at an average cruising speed of 110 MPH. The fuel cost of $206.25 wil give you a range of 589.28 miles (37.5 gallons divided by 7 then multiplied by 110 MPH.) Not bad for a small aircraft.
Fuel costs are only a small part of the total maintenance requirements. Similar to owning a car, oil changes and engine tune ups are fairly common on all types of aircraft. The TBO or Time Before Overhaul should be strictly followed on all types of airplane engines to prevent engine failure and seizure during operation.
