Family and Medical Leave Act 101
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) permits eligible employees to take as many as 12 weeks of leave from a paid position. The leave is unpaid and capped at one 12-week period per year. During this time, the employer must keep open the worker’s position, so the returning employee may continue on the track to seniority. There are some exceptions to the rules, and this quiz highlights common misunderstandings and pitfalls for the human resources manager.
