How to Install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Samsung Spica i5700

Android 2.3 Gingerbread has been out for quite some time now. It is the best version of the Android OS and offers the best performance so far.

Officially, it is available only with the Google Nexus S, but unofficial ROMs are now available for many phones.

I’ve already posted a whole lot of tutorials which explain how you can install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on your phone, well, at least most of them (Motorola Droid, Motorola Droid X, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC HD2 etc ). In this tutorial, I will explain how you can install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the Samsung Spica i5700, one of the best budget Android smartphones so far.

The Samsung Spica comes with Android 2.1 Eclair but already has an Android 2.2 Froyo ROM. We also have a Cyanogen Mod 7 Alpha Gingerbread ROM for the Spica. To install it, you need to have a rooted Samsung Spica. If you don’t have root access on your phone, then make sure that you root it first.

Here is a list of the stuff that works on this ROM and the stuff that doesn’t work.

Stuff that works:

  • GSM
  • Audio
  • SD Card, USB Mass Storage
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Airplane Mode
  • Call Waiting
  • Network Searching

Stuff that doesn’t work:

  • Sleep Mode
  • Hardware Acceleration
  • Sensors
  • GPS
