All About the Open Handset Alliance

Open Handset Alliance LogoThe Open Handset Alliance (OHA) is a collection of companies that was established in 2007. In 2010 the Open Handset Alliance was comprised of 79 technology and mobile companies including names like Google, HTC, Dell, Intel, Motorola, Samsung, LG, T-Mobile and Nvidia, and together they are responsible for creating and promoting the Android mobile operating system. Android is freely distributed as open source, meaning any company can use it in their own products.
