Guide to Antivirus Software

Antivirus software is supposed to be running on every computer, yet not all virus scanner software provides the same level of protection! Some merely check your computer for known threats by means of a malware fingerprint, and thus miss alterations, whereas the better products also have runtime execution checks and heuristic malware recognition algorithms for example. Moreover, some vendors stick with a narrow definition of “virus" as a self-replicating piece of malicious code and leave the door open for Trojan Horses, keyloggers and password stealers just to name a few loopholes.
