Popcorn is a great snack, and for some people it is absolutely necessary for movie watching. Commercial popcorns unfortunately can be laden with extra calories, artificial flavorings, and nasty pesticides. They can sometimes be made from genetically modified corn kernels. You can avoid those unwanted additives by eating organic popcorn. Here are a few of the best tasting organic popcorns available.
Trader Joe’s Organic Popcorn with Olive Oil
When looking for great organic products one of my first stops is at Trader Joe’s. I was not disappointed when I found their organic popcorn with olive oil. At first you may be skeptical about the lack of butter flavoring but one taste and you’ll be converted. This organic popcorn is also lightly salted with sea salt. At Trader Joe’s the popcorn comes packaged pre-popped and is as easy to eat and serve as potato chips. This is a convenient and worry free snack and you don’t have to worry about any unwanted additives in your popcorn. At less than two dollars a bag it’s also a very affordable snack to keep around the house.
BEARITOS Organic Microwave Popcorn
If you’d rather make your popcorn at home you can try Bearitos organic popcorn. It comes in a variety of styles like no oil and no salt or lightly salted. Like traditional microwave popcorns you make this popcorn by following the directions and listening for the popping to slow down. I found that this no oil organic popcorn can tend to burn easier when left unattended in the microwave so stay nearby and be prepared to remove the bag when the popping slows to about 2 to 3 pops a second. For around three dollars a box it’s priced just the same as most other microwave popcorns without all the same chemicals and additives.
Arrowhead Mills Organic Yellow Popcorn
If you have an air popper at home you should try Arrowhead Mills organic yellow popcorn. Just like regular air popping popcorn you can add your own butter (organic of course), salt, or seasoning. I like to add sea salt and olive oil to mine to try and pop with the healthiest organic popcorn possible. For around four dollars for nearly thirty ounces this is one of the best values I found.
Eden Organic Popcorn
Another option for at home popping in an air popper or on the stove is Eden Organic’s Yellow popping corn. I was only able to find this popcorn online so unless you can find a retailer near you consider ordering a few other things from the site or shopping around for something closer to home. Priced at about three dollars for twenty ounces you’ll definitely be saving some money by popping at home but having to pay the shipping cost may not be worth it.
Whatever you eat try to make it the purest and healthiest food possible. Food is fuel for your body and the kind of fuel you use really matters. Feel better about snacking by snacking on the best tasting organic popcorn between meals or during that movie.
