Design & User Interface (4 out of 5)

The SanDisk Sansa View is an all-black slim player that measures 4.3 x 2 x 0.4 inches and weighs 82 grams. It has a large

good-looking 2.4” color TFT screen for viewing videos.

The scroll wheel of the SanDisk Sansa View is located just beneath the screen, and is illuminated by a cool blue color. The wheel provides fast and easy navigation and is used for navigating through the menu items. A handy Home button is located at the upper-right side of the wheel, which returns you to the main menu after you have roamed deep into the folders. There is no dedicated volume button on the player but the with the scroll wheel you can easily control the volume when a song is playing.

A microSD card slot is located on the right side of the SanDisk Sansa View, while at the bottom of the player is a standard 3.5” audio jack and dock connector. The biggest flaw in the player is the jack location, being on the bottom. Previous models of Sansa players had the jack on the top, which was more useful.

Features (5 out of 5)

The SanDisk Sansa View can play back WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA and Audible files. For images and video, you get support for JPEG and WMV, MPEG4, and H.264 files. You can even play videos purchased from TiVoToGo and Amazon Unbox on Sansa View. Once attached to a computer with the supplied USB cable, the player is recognized as a removable drive, and you can load media on it the same way as you would on a USB flash drive.

The player works with any Windows Media-based audio service, like Rhapsody and Napster. And if you ever get tired of digital audio, you can switch to the built-in FM tuner that features 20 preset stations and auto scan. The SanDisk Sansa View has a built-in mic, and has decent recording quality.

The SanDisk Sansa View comes in 8 GB and 16 GB variations. That’s a lot of room to store your media files.

Performance (4 out of 5)

The audio quality of the player is very good but not as inspiring. The music tends to be lacking in bass and distortion is heard sometimes. However, music in general sounds pretty good, with warm mids and nice high-end clarity. Videos on the Sansa View look bright but they do suffer a bit from dimness at times. Images look bright and sharp, with good color saturation. The battery life of the SanDisk Sansa View is exceptional. The device can play 33 hours of audio or 5.5 hours of video on a single full charge.

Verdict (4 out of 5)

The SanDisk Sansa View is not as beautiful as other multimedia players, but still is a nice, pocketable player with solid performance and features. The overall music quality of the player is pretty good, and what else could you ask for from an MP3 player? The 8 GB Sansa View goes for an affordable price of just $69.99 and the 16 GB costs $94.99.
