The Virtual Console Controller: Better Than Your Old One?

You go downstairs and want to play some Megaman 2. You pull out that old box of wires and get your NES or you pop in your Megaman game. It doesn't work and you get all sorts of fun colors. You remember you still have a Wii hooked up; is the Virtual Console Controller a big thing?

GripRating Good

What I love about the Virtual Console Controller is that the grip is very nice. The glossy finish gives it a good touch. If you have seen the controller, you can tell that there are two pre-built clips for stores. I can't say that much more about the grip, because it’s everything you would expect, but I have seen a third party version and it was shaped like the NES Turbo Zapper. Not enough grip when you move around.

StyleRating Excellent

To a normal gamer, the Virtual Console Controller might look like a thin brick with wires. To a hard-core gamer, however, it’s the pure center of imagination. It’s like every game ever was in your face and you had the key, that key comes with the power of style! If you can all ready tell, it’s a mix of NES, SNES, SEGA, etc. It's God's gaming controller for retro games.

The grip was very good on the third party, but bad in style, it’s ugly in color so Nintendo won this time. What I love is the four buttons. Instead of the four SNES button names, two are NES in clear B and A, Memories. This should be a keeps for sure at a rating of 5/5.

FunctionalityRating Good

Everything has a weakness. For some games, the timing was too late. For example, in Megaman 3, when I was in a boss battle, It didn't respond to fast movements when I wanted to jump. Another thing that made me blow steam was the placement of the analog sticks. Every time I play SMB2:TLL (Japan version of SMB2). I take off my hand for a moment and I always go to the analog sticks and they don't respond that well with NES, SNES, and SEGA games.

I find that I would rather go convert my old NES controller to play on my computer instead of playing on my Nintendo Wii. In the end of the light, I gave 4/5 because the control screw-ups won't be that bad. But, to me, every moment counts.

PriceRating Excellent

For around $20, you can take this baby home! If you want to get some friends on the action with some Super Smash Bros. Brawl Melee, $20 is perfect each to have a fun night!

OverallRating Excellent

In the end, it's a very good buy. Like I said, this is a dream for anyone from casual gamers to hard-core gamers. You could be at any age and enjoy the Virtual Console Controller. You can leave that old NES in the back of your closet and grab your credit card for a low cost payment of $20. After looking it over, it's a retro flashback at 5/5 stars.
