PC gamers longing to have a motion controller similar to Nintendo’s Wii remote had their dreams materialized in the form of Stix 200 remote motion controller. Yes, Stix 200 has been developed to substitute the perfect duo of peripherals for gaming: the QWERTY keyboard and a standard two-button mouse. But how far has it succeeded in replacing these simple yet powerful peripherals for gaming?
Developed by a popular toy company Playhut Inc., the Stix 200 remote costs $49.99 and promises to revolutionize the PC and online gaming experience with its cool white wrist strapped motion sensing controller. But PC gamers will have to contend themselves playing 2D games as Stix 200 remote plays those mediocre mini games that are available on Sphere—a game portal of Golive2.com, subsidiary website of Playhut. However, there’s another motion controller called Stix 400 which allow gamers to play 3D games and is priced at $59.99.
If you compare Stix 200 remote with the Wiimote—a wireless motion controller for the popular Nintendo Wii gaming console, you will find striking similarities. The shape, size, and white wrist strap of The PC motion controller has close resemblance to the Wii controller. The only difference is the faceplate on top of Stix 200 that has a touch-sensitive panel with LED lights behind it. The kit mainly consists of one Stix controller and a base station. For two-player gaming, you will have to purchase another controller for $29.99. The base station has to be connected to the PC via USB. The next step is to download the software for your Stix controllers. The software installation prompts you to register for an account and then you can directly access Stix’s web portal. The web portal has some not-so great 2D flash games ranging from shooters to puzzles.
The fact that Stix 200 was created only for the 2D environment is a bit of disappointment for PC gamers. Its low-accuracy level, especially for shooting games, adds insult to injury. Moreover, it is expensive as compared to its features. However, Playhut promises to launch more advanced versions to make PC gaming experience enjoyable.
