Rhiannon: Curse of The Four Branches Review

In this game you play the role of a professional who is charged with supervising the restoration of a thousand year old farm house. You will visit the construction site, only to find out that the crew has fled due to paranormal activity. Upon finding this scene, you delve in to investigate, and you end up finding out that the ghostly presence on the site is bent on pulling you into the middle of an epic battle between good and evil that involves not only the undead but magic.

This game, while RPG like in style, has a strong mystery aspect. You will be looking through the house itself, and its adjoining buildings in order to find not only the items that you need, but also the information you require to uncover the secrets. Get ready to snoop through computers, drawers and documents. The game's pace may be bit slow for those of you who are used to action-based games, but if you are looking for a game that makes you think while you play, then this is the right title for you. Just be aware that you cannot pick up an item until you need it. This means that you will be doing a bit of backtracking in order to get the game objectives completed.

The puzzles in this game, for the most part make sense. The only thing that makes things a bit problematic is that you have to do the right thing in the right place. Sure, you could have opened a package anywhere, but you have to do it at a specific place in the game. Its a bit annoying, but its a fairly minor issue.

The graphics are not exactly high definition, but they do get the job done. They create a suitably spooky place for the game to unfold in, and you will not feel that you are seeing the same locations over and over again - unless you have to double back that is. You will find that the details in the background are somewhat detailed, and for an indie title, the NPC’s are done extremely well.

All in all, this game is worth playing. It gives you the creeps, which any game featuring ghosts should. The puzzles will keep you thinking though the whole game. The item hunts may be a bit annoying in the beginning, but as time goes on and you start to understand the underlying logic, you will find it easier and easier to complete puzzles. Even if you are addicted to the high resolution graphics and non-stop action of the blockbuster titles, this game will be worth your time, whether you're a hardcore or casual gamer.
