Top 10 PC Games Of All Time?

UK high street retailer, GAME, has released the results of a poll designed to discover the top 100 computer and video games of all time... 

With regards to the top 10 PC games, I honestly can't say I agree with some of the titles that made the list, and the dominance of recently released games doesn't really lend a lot of weight to the findings.

It does, however, beg the question: do you agree with the list? Which games would feature on your top 10 PC games?

Portal is definitely the best game of all time!

I think the first Baldur's Gate game for Windows PC was the best. It was so big and had so many options. I wish they'd make another just like it. I love a good party-based RPG, but I don't get into the monthly fee-based ones.

As a first generation gamer, I have to disagree with some of these.  Here is my top 5 list:

World of Warcraft-Love it or hate it, it's the biggest money maker out there.  I tried to hate it and did so for years but recently broke down and installed it from some discs laying around the house.  I'm addicted.  I try hard NOT to play this game.

Oblivion-Such a great game.  Whether you want to do a real quest or wander around enjoying scenery, this game is terrific.  I've logged over 400 hours without even starting the main quest once.  Maybe I will one day.

Fallout 2- This is the best turn based strategy/rpg game ever. 

The Sims 2-The amount of options in this life sim are staggering.  Personally, I prefer logging into my friends/relatives games and creating communities of hot lesbians, wookies, or tv casts to surprise them upon their return.

System Shock 2-FPS/RPG hybrid that is probably the only game that will always make me jump out of my chair.  Great atmosphere and very hard.

How about Civilization II, Civilization IV, Age of Empire ?

It's probably indicative of the state of the current video game industry in the UK that a lot of the entries are relatively recent.  I mean, Wii Fit was 29th overall!!

 Hm... if they are supposed to be to "top PC games of all time", then I am really suprised at the titles there...  I do have to agree that World of Warcraft rates right up there at the top for several reasons, I mean, Blizzard makes millions each month off those of us who signed their souls over when we bought that stinkin' game...  But, the Sims??  Doom??  Wow.  I can think of several games that are more popular than those.  I am also suprised that Guild Wars is sooooo far down on the list.  It's actually one of the bigger MMO games on the market too, although a lot of serious gamers won't admit they play it... ha ha ha.  I have to agree with you Brian, their picks for the top 10 are just ... off.

 Old school Duke Nuke'em / Doom platform games really exploded the PC gaming revolution I believe. It is from here that the Diablo and World of Warcraft machine was made from.

 OMG - I completely forgot about Duke Nuke'em.... I was in love with that PC game!!  :)

There's just no such thing as the perfect top ten video game list, because the best two games, in my opinion, are always the game I just got my hands on and the game I'm waiting to get my hands on next week!

That is a tough call on Top 10. I personally have an eclectic taste and would be able to name but a few offhand.

1. Dungeon Keeper A great concept to play the malevolent villian against the goody two shoes heroes for a change. I regret however many a lowly worker was slapped to death when I demanded my way.

2. Fallout Post Apocalyptic game that is still to this date an enjoyable turn-based game. I being a old school Tabletop RPG fan loved the incorporation of the GURPS system.

3. Dark Forces 2 While I did enjoy the storyline of the original, the first person view did give me quite the headache and I was thrilled at the 3rd person view option of its sequel. Also I thoroughly enjoyed when MSN had pc-game servers up for 4-8 person combat scenarios. Hell even capture the flag was fun with this game.

Red Alert 2 beat Starcraft in this list?

Of course Hitman!!!! Waiting eagerly for Hitman 5.....:)
