Crafting Guide to Expert Poison Making in Dragon Age: Origins

The Poison-Making skill can yield some incredibly useful items for your characters to use during combat, but the trade-off is that you will have to gather a lot of items in order to make those poisons and grenades. If you’re willing to put the time into it, you can coat your weapons with things that’ll make your characters far more effective in combat. In this article, we’ll discuss the third and fourth tiers of the Poison-Making skill and what you can make with it. Poison-Making recipes are also included.

Acidic Coating

• Recipe: 2 Lifestone, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

By applying a layer of acid to your weapon, it does an extra 2 points of nature damage every time you hit.

Adder’s Kiss

• Recipe: 3 Toxin Extract, 2 Distillation Agent , 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Even better than the Acidic Coating, this stuff does 3 points of nature damage per hit, plus there is a chance it will slow your opponents movement rate by almost half.

Concentrated Crow Poison

• Recipe: 3 Toxin Extract, 3 Deathroot, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

This stuff is just nasty. It does a whopping 6 points of nature damage, plus it offers a chance to stun your opponent for several seconds.

Demonic Poison

• Recipe: 1 Demonic Ichor, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Putting this poison on your weapon will let you do an extra 5 points of spirit damage every time you hit.

Flame Coating

• Recipe: 2 Fire Crystal, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

With this coating, you basically set your weapon ablaze so that you can do an extra 2 points of fire damage per successful hit.

Fleshrot

• Recipe: 3 Deathroot, 2 Distillation Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

This actually has the same exact results as the Adder’s Kiss. It does 3 points of nature damage and has a chance to slow your opponent.

Freezing Coating

• Recipe: 2 Frostrock, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Ice down your weapon for an extra 2 points of frost damage per hit.

Magebane

• Recipe: 3 Lyrium Dust, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Use this against a mage or any kind of spellcaster to take away 5 points of mana with every hit. Draining mana prevents them from casting spells. So does hitting them with weapons.

Shock Coating

• Recipe: 2 Frozen Lightning, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Electrify your weapon in order to do an extra 3 points of electric damage per hit.

Soldier’s Bane

• Recipe: 3 Deep Mushroom, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Use this against your toughest tank opponents to take away 5 points of their stamina. This will prevent them from using special attacks against you.

Soulrot Coating

• Recipe: 2 Spirit Shard, 2 Corrupter Agent, 1 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

This coating will cause your weapon to do an extra 2 points of spirit damage per hit.

Concentrated Demonic Poison

• Recipe: 2 Demonic Ichor, 2 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

It’s double the recipe of the regular Demonic Poison, but it also does double the amount of damage - A whopping 10 spirit damage per hit.

Concentrated Magebane

• Recipe: 4 Lyrium Dust, 2 Corrupter Agent, 2 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

If you need to quickly take down a mage before they get too many spells off, this is the best way to do it. Coat your weapon with this stuff and then hit a mage and it’ll drain 10 points off their mana with each hit. By draining mana, you will prevent them from casting new spells, plus you’re still doing regular weapon damage.

Concentrated Soldier’s Bane

• Recipe: 4 Deep Mushroom, 2 Corrupter Agent, 2 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

Soldier’s Bane is to warriors and rogues what Magebane is to spellcasters. Just like its lighter version from the third tier, this stuff will drain 10 stamina points with each hit. It’s a great way to reduce a tough opponent’s number of special attacks.

Quiet Death

• Recipe: 4 Toxin Extract, 4 Deathroot, 2 Concentrator Agent, 1 Flask

The Quiet Death poison is the real reason to invest that skill point in Master Poison-Making. For starters, it deals 10 points of nature damage with each hit. What makes it awesome is that with each hit you will have over a 50% chance to automatically kill an enemy who is down to 20% or less health. Basically, it’s a finisher. The only catch is that this does not work on ‘elite’ units like boss type character or any enemy whose name shows in a different color on screen than the rest of them. Even so, it’s great for finishing off all the thugs that fight alongside the boss, so you can clear the way more quickly and focus on the main bad guy.
