Alan Hansen famously said back in 1995 “You won’t win anything with kids.” He was talking about the Manchester United side that went on to win the Premier League title despite having an average squad age of just 24. Hansen was wrong: young players can form the basis for a very strong squad and they can serve you well for years as they fulfil their potential.

Football Manager 2010 there are plenty of youngsters with great potential and in this guide we’ll highlight some of them. This is by no means a comprehensive list and it will be tweaked and added to in time but you should be able to find several young players worth going for before they become famous and expensive. There are also a lot of great young players in the game who have already been marked for greatness and they have price tags to match, so we’ll focus on the affordable end of the market first.
For each player we’ll state the age, position, starting club and value, remember you’ll often need to pay over the odds for players that a club does not want to sell. Also, if the player is below a certain age you’ll be able to offer them a contract directly but a tribunal will decide what fee you have to pay to compensate the club you’re taking them from.
