The 5 Worst Games Based on Movies

The PC version of the Iron Man movie game was just a bad console port of the PS2 version of the game. The develops couldn’t even see fit to give PC gamers the PS3 or Xbox 360 version, but instead went the cheap route and put out the low-tech PS2 one. Have you ever seen what PS2 quality graphics look like on a PC? This game looked and played like something from a decade ago, and many PC gamers started leaving warnings about it on message boards and everywhere else. What a rip-off considering how good the movie was.

This lame first person shooter for the PC is among the worst ever made based on a movie because it had numerous technical problems and the graphics were quite dated. Most Terminator fans disregard this movie, and most gamers ignored this game, too. It’s like somebody took a basic FPS engine and made a Terminator 3 mod for it, then pushed it to market without actually playing the game first. Like most everything else associated with T3, this game left people scratching their heads.

I did actually like the very long Civil War movie that inspired this game, but the game itself was just a bad first person shooter. It pretty much exemplifies everything that can be wrong with a shooting game, from the A.I. being ignorant to numerous graphics problems. The time period of the Civil War, with all its slow-reloading weapons and such, just doesn’t work for a FPS. I once played a Battlefield 1942 mod based on the Civil War, and it was about as lame as you can imagine... a lot like this game.

Is it just me, or did the whole Matrix thing take a big nosedive after the first movie? The two sequels weren’t so great, and neither was this game. It was made to actually fill in gaps in the storyline and a bunch of movie footage was shot specifically for the game. The idea behind it was to make an interactive movie for fans of the series. The problem was that the game itself wasn’t very good. The controls just didn’t work the way you expect, and it turned out to be a fairly generic fighting game despite all the cool stuff you saw the characters do in the movies. This game is universally regarded as a disappointment, kind of like the Matrix movie sequels.

You’d be hard pressed to find a ‘worst games’ list that didn’t include this one. The story behind the Atari 2600 version of the E.T. game is notorious. Many contribute the game’s failure as being a major factor leading to Atari’s demise, and thousands of copies of this game cartridge wound up in landfill. Basically, what happened was the game was commissioned as a last-minute promo effort and the developers had hardly any time to put it together (a movie game tradition proudly carried on in the industry to this day- Ed). As a result, the game seems very incomplete and is considered one of the worst Atari titles of all time. Millions upon millions of dollars were lost on this one, and that’s in 1980’s bucks.
