Prototype Powers, Movement and Survivability Guide

This is guide to the various upgrades you can buy in the action packed PC game Prototype. In this first part we take a look at Prototype powers, movement and survival upgrades.

Prototype Upgrades

Prototype is a fantastic action game with a strong focus on chaotic violence. You take on the role of Alex Mercer, a man infected with some kind of mysterious virus which gives you extraordinary abilities. As you progress you collect Evolve Points which allow you to purchase upgrades. Some are new moves, some are new powers, all will give you an edge in the war. To get the best out of the combat and complete your missions with style you will need to know a bit about the powers and moves that are available in Prototype. The second part of the guide will deal with Prototype combat upgrades, disguise abilities and vehicles and weaponry.

The various options available can be accessed by pressing ESC during the game and selecting the Upgrade tab. In there you will find options organised by category and new choices will be added and unlocked as you progress and begin to grow stronger. Core powers are all marked and once unlocked many can be upgraded further, sometimes more than once. The more powers and moves you have in Prototype the more dangerous you become.

In order to activate powers in Prototype you press R to bring up a wheel with your available power icons marked and select the one you want. Once selected you can also use the number keys to activate or deactivate the power. Movement powers work all the time and you can select one offensive and one defensive power at any given moment.

Blade Powers – unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission. Blade is your most devastating base attack and will rip through anything.

Blade Air Slice – 1,000,000 EP – This allows you to drop down and slice your enemy and is unlocked during the Children of Blacklight mission.
Blade Frenzy – 700,000 EP – Slice up your foe a treat with this combination move, unlocked during the Children of Blacklight mission.
Blade Sprint Frenzy – 1,200,000 EP – Sprint and then stab away with this combo, unlocked during the Shock and Awe mission.

Claws Power

Groundspike – 50,000 EP – A nasty black spike will impale your enemy from beneath and is unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.
Groundspike Upgrade 1 – 80,000 EP – Upgrade for the spike attack, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Groundspike Upgrade Max – 500,000 EP – Ultimate upgrade for the spike attack, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.
Dashing Slice – 65,000 EP – Makes your heavy claw attack more damaging and is unlocked during the A New Order mission.

Defensive Powers

Shield Power – 10,000 EP – Absorbs all damage for a limited period and is unlocked after the Past and Present mission.
Armor – No Cost – You’ll take much less damage but Armor slows you down and prevents moves like Glide from working. It is unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.

Hammerfist Powers

Hammerfist Smackdown – 48,000 EP – Hulk smash, this is a powerful punch, unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.
Hammerfist Elbow Slam – 675,000 EP – Wrestling classic as you bring a powerful elbow down on your foe, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.
Hammertoss – 900,000 EP – Throw your fist with you attached, unlocked during the Making the Future mission.

Musclemass Powers

Musclemass Power - 80,000 EP – This doubles your strength for throwing and punching and is unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Musclemass Boost – 1,000,000 EP – Makes you stronger and is unlocked during the Children of Blacklight mission.
Musclemass Throw – 250,000 EP - Makes you stronger and is unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.

Whipfist Powers

Whipfist – 55,000 EP – Long range whip attack, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Street Sweeper – 57,500 EP – A wide sweeping strike for clearing multiple enemies, unlocked by buying Whipfist.
Longshot Grab – 250,000 EP – Grab an enemy and suck them in, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.

Sensory Powers

Thermal Vision Power – 30,000 EP – Lets you see through smoke, unlocked during The Wheels of Chance mission.
Infected Vision Power – No Cost – See the world through the eyes of the infected, unlocked during The First Monster mission.

Air

Airdash – 2,500 EP – Handy quick dash in mid-air, unlocked during the Past and Present mission.
Glide – 15,000 EP – You can fly for short distances, unlocked by buying Airdash.
Airdash Boost – 20,000 EP – You can dash further and faster, unlocked by buying Airdash.
Airdash Double – 48,000 EP – Now you can two Airdash moves during a single jump, unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.
Airdash Double Boost – 80,000 EP – You can double dash faster and further, unlocked by buying Airdash Double.
Air Recovery - 30,000 EP – You can regain control when knocked through the air, unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.

Sprint

Diveroll – 100 EP – Vital dodge move, unlocked during the Past and Present mission.
Sprint Speed 1 – 10,000 EP – Run faster, unlocked during the Past and Present mission.
Sprint Speed 2 – 45,000 EP – Run even faster, unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.
Sprint Speed Max – 100,000 EP – Run even faster still, unlocked during the Errand Boy mission.

Jump

Jump Upgrade 1 – 10,000 EP – Improved jump, unlocked during the Past and Present mission.
Jump Upgrade 2 – 30,000 EP – Further improved jump, unlocked during the Behind the Glass mission.
Jump Upgrade 3 – 100,000 EP – Even better jump, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Jump Upgrade Max – 135,000 EP – Ultimate jump, unlocked during the Errand Boy mission.
Wall Jump Latch – 32,500 EP – You can jump up a wall without sprinting, unlocked during the A New Order mission.

Critical Mass

Critical Mass Ability – 15,000 EP – Overcharge your health meter by consuming people and use devastator attacks, unlocked during the Past and Present mission.
Adrenaline Surge – 20,000 EP – Quick invulnerability when near death can be enough to save you, unlocked by buying Critical Mass Ability.
Critical Mass Boost 1 – 80,000 EP – You can have two devastator attacks, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Critical Mass Boost Max – 400,000 EP – You can have three devastator attacks, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.

Health

Health Boost 1 – 36,000 EP – Increased health, unlocked the Past and Present mission.
Health Boost 2 – 130,000 EP – Further increased health, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Health Boost Max – 550,000 EP – Even further increased health, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.

Health Regeneration

Regen Rate Boost 1 – 80,000 EP – Health regenerates faster out of combat, unlocked during the A New Order mission.
Regen Rate Boost Max – 100,000 EP - Health regenerates even faster, unlocked during the Errand Boy mission.
Regen Delay 1 – 135,000 EP – Decreases time for regeneration to start, unlocked during the Errand Boy mission.
Regen Delay Max – 475,000 EP - Decreases time for regeneration to start further, unlocked during the Biological Imperative mission.
