This article explains the differences between villages, castles and towns in Mount and Blade and also takes a look at how to conquer them and improve your chances of being awarded the conquered lands by your King.

Places in Mount and Blade

There are three types of places you can visit in Mount and Blade and they are all marked on the world map. Settlements all have names and they are divided into villages, castles and towns. You can visit them simply by clicking on the name on the map and the difference is obvious as villages are the smallest, castles next and towns are the largest. The only other type of place you may come across is the training fields which is where you can learn how to wield weapons and fight skillfully.

Villages, Castles and Towns

VILLAGES:

Often when you pledge allegiance to a particular faction the King will award you a small village in his empire. You can collect taxes from the village and build various improvements but villages do not earn you a great deal of money and they are open to attack. You can also attack villages yourself but as there is no option to conquer them, you can simply loot and pillage.

Villages are connected to castles and towns so when you conquer a castle or town the nearby villages will change allegiance as well.

CASTLES:

A castle is a fortified stronghold that holds sway over the surrounding land. You can station troops here, imprison enemy troops and build various improvements. Castles will also provide a tax income for the lord who holds them. Troops stationed in a castle will cost you less money. TOWNS:

These are the bustling centres of life in Calradia, you’ll find markets selling food, armor, weapons and horses. You’ll also find taverns with various shady characters enjoying a drink and the great tournaments take place in the arenas. You can station troops or prisoners in towns and they tend to be very well defended. Any lord holding a town can collect large amounts of money in the form of taxes. Continue to the next page to see how to lay siege to a Castle or Town!

Rippy, read this
If you can't lay siege, it probably means that the town is already under one.

your aligned country may not be at war with them at the time. If thats the case then try to find one of their lords who is listed as one of your enemies in character report and pick a fight with him youll be able to wage a personal war against the faction then but you will recieve no help from the rest of your faction until they declare war so be prepared for it.

I cant capture villages in mount and blade ver. 0.751
I have the mount & blade ver. 0.751. I have already reached level 37 and have pledged alliance to the Swadians. I have an army 70 strong. There are a total of two castles on the map. I have captured and stationed troops inside both of them. My biggest problem is I just cant conquer the enemy (Vaegirs) villages. Whenever I get in one of them three options are available namely:
1. Request a meeting with the lord,
2. Disguise yourself and try to sneak through the town gates and
3. Leave town

Sometimes its possible to sneak in wherein there are not many things one can do once inside apart from visiting the shops. And sometimes you will have to fight your way out. When this situation arises there are only two enemy soldiers to deal with and not a single other soul. All the gates remain closed and if you press 'TAB' and leave you loose the battle for apparently no reason at all. The other way out is to run out through the main gate and after reaching a certain distance you can leave the battle. I m tired of taking missions from the lords of the allied towns and completing them. I simply don't get it. Can anyone please help me out.
