Assassin's Creed 2 hit shelves this week for larger console games, and so did Assassin's Creed 2: Discovery for the Nintendo DS. Is this version a hit or miss when it comes to taking your favorite assassin with you? Let's take a look!

Assassin's Creed 2: Discovery

assassins creed 2 ds box Yes, there is an Assassin's Creed 2 for the Nintendo DS, just with a slight change in the title. Is it as fun to play as the newest version of this great game franchise? While it's getting mixed reviews on some gaming sites, I took it for a little test and here's what I found good and bad about Assassin's Creed 2: Discovery for the DS.

Story Line
Rating Excellent

The Nintendo DS version of Assassin's Creed 2 is the untold story line of Ezio's travels to 15th Century Spain. His plan to rescue fellow assassins that are held captive in a fake "Inquisition" end up playing a role in him finding a plot by the Templars to set sail across the oceans, in hopes of finding the New World.

While I haven't beaten the game yet, I can tell you that there is a lot of differences in the story line of Assassin's Creed 2 Discovery that there are in the large console versions of the game. There is more to discover in Ezio's story and life in the Nintendo DS version, which I think is pretty interesting, and those that only play it on the next gen consoles won't get this opportunity. Of course, the story in the next gen consoles is a bit different than the Nintendo DS version as well - so to get the whole story, you'll want to try out both versions if you can.

Game Play
Rating Good

Basically the game play is close to what it is on the next gen consoles, but only in 2D, which takes away from it a bit. You'll find that there are three different types of level game play: normal, speedy, and then a stealth-type mode. The normal levels have you just complete the missions however you can, while speed modes give you a set time to finish them in. The stealth modes are the funnest though, as you have to sneak around and have a limited number of times that you can actually get caught - making it harder.

The game play overall could have been a bit better in my opinion, as there are just too many things that should be shown, or at least be a bit better. For example, there are too many times that I found myself just jumping off a building so I wouldn't get caught or killed - praying that I wouldn't die, and then find myself in some cart, on some landing, or something similar. It was odd to say the least. And, I'll tell you now that the mini-map provided to you doesn't help at all, and you're better off just going at it without using the map.

But, that being said - the game play overall is fun for a 2D platform game. You get to do most of the same things that you do in the Assassin's Creed versions on the other consoles, and the fast-paced action is enough to keep your heart going while you're racing around on your little Nintendo DS.
