Devil Summoner 2 For The PS2

Are you a fan of the original Devil Summoner? Ready to check out the great sequel that has been released for the PS2? It far outweighs other PS2 games that are on the market right now, and any fan of anime games, action games, or fighting games will find that Devil Summoner 2 is one of the best games out there right now for the PS2. We'll take a good look into the game with this Devil Summoner 2 review to show you what you are missing out on:

Story

The story begins as a young woman approaches the detective agency to request the assistance of Narumi and Raidou in locating a man named Dahn. "Devil Summoner 2" chronologically picks up after the prequel as Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th being once again summoned by Yatagarasu in an attempt to protect the Capital of Japan. Raidou and his mentoring cat Gouto are once more called upon to save the peace and prosperity of their beloved Capital as they work undercover at the Narumi Detective Agency.

Gameplay: 10 out of 10

Screenshot 2The combat department here has improved significantly over that of the original previous 'Devil Summoner' game as you can now take control of two demons for instance. Also, instead of just using the Sword, you can do Sword, Gun, Gun to sword. Dodging is another necessity that has been added along with blocking too. The entire controls feel like they have obviously had an immense amount of thought put into them. The combat difficulty in the overall game is an equally challenging experience that is not too hard nor too easy to beat.

Game Cover

Screenshot 1The imagery in "Devil Summoner 2" is visually gorgeous and a true delight. Keeping in tune with the Taisho era like in the previous game, some of the demons have undergone a bit of redesigning from when we last saw them but that's not bad news at all, Angel and High Pixie have undergone exceptionally beautiful makeovers here - Angel now sports a traditional robe attire with nice blue hair for instance whereas the original "Devil Summoner" had her decked out in duct tape and belts.

Sound: 6 out of 10

"Devil Summoner 2" is updated with some new music in it and old music as well (i.e. Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon which sounds exactly like Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army) but the new stuff isn't as up to standard and appealing enough as it was in the original "Devil Summoner" game. Also, I think it's noteworthy to mention that this is a silent role-playing game without voice-overs which is a fantastic thing, it's an old school preference, yes, but voice-overs in role-playing games is so trendy nowadays.

Overall: 7 out of 10

Screenshot 3"Devil Summoner 2" is not a bad game in any sense of the term but where your feelings lie towards the first game is going to determine whether or not this one holds up as a worthy sequel. If you can let go of the previous game's disappointments, then you may actually enjoy this second chapter.
