Big Mutha Truckers for PS2

 In Big Mutha Truckers, you play as one of four of the Jackson kids that are charged with helping Ma's trucking business as she can't handle it anymore and is retiring. First off, the kids that you get to pick from are all downright hilarious in their own ways, so this is the first of many humorous jokes that you'll find throughout the game. You will have to take the reins of the business and to prove your worth, you have to undertake a contest to see who can make the most money in a 60-day time period. From there, you have to play different missions to make money, gain specific trucks, and more. Each different area of the game offers you another challenge to undertake and overcome.

You will start out by choosing one of the four kids: Bobbie Sue, Rawkus, Earl, or Cletus. You start out with a small number of stock in your truck that Ma will tell you where to go with it. From there, you simply speak to the bartender in the town to find out a tip on what to buy and where to sell it. Buy as much of that item as you can and head to the town in need, sell your load and start over again.

During your time on the road, you'll get to crash into other cars, bikers, and anything else that you can find. You can race your brothers and sister and other truckers, do timed missions, and get certain packages to special destinations. While this might seem like other driving or delivery games, it's far from that. Personally, I have so much fun playing this PS2 console game that I could never give it up. Each different toon you choose has his or her own attitude, sayings, and is just downright funny to play. You can crash into just about anything and gain some money from it, especially when you get "double dang damage" on something. And, if you make the bikers mad, they'll actually come after you, hop on your truck and start making their way toward the cab. You'll have to swerve and drive like a maniac to get them off.

During the game, you visit different towns, where you have to repair, refuel, buy and sell cargo, change out trailers, talk to the local bartender for tips on cargo, and even customize your rig. Custimization is absolutely funny as everything, as you can spray paint sayings down the sides of your rig - no matter what they are.

The graphics are great, and for an older PS2 game, I'm really amazed at how good they are. I have seen games come out since 2003 that are nowhere near what Big Mutha Truckers is, and they have more money in development behind them. While some of the movements on the characters when they get in and out of the trucks could have used a bit more work, that's no big deal to me. Everything is very well put together and fun to see as you play through the game.

This is one area where I'm reminded a bit of GTA. The sounds in the game are basic truck sounds: rumbling engines, squeeling breaks, and sometimes a horn. Other sounds are other cars honking at you, bikers cussing you, the radio (which you can change the station on), and more GTA-type sounds from your toon and the surroundings. Basically, the sounds are really nothing special, but the comedy that they provide is absolutely great, especially the redneck radio channel and your toon.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who wants to find a cheap game to play and enjoy when they need some comedy relief or just wants to crash into stuff. The replay value is great, you can play over and over without worrying about the game getting too dull, and you'll always find yourself laughing at something in the game as well. I don't know that I would recommend it to younger gamers, as some of the scenes are a bit racy for those under 12, but that is all personal preference. While I've seen some sites give this game a lower score, I'm actually kind of amazed at that, because it's not made to be a realistic simulation game, it's made to be a fun-to-play game that you and your friends can enjoy.
