The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back in the remake of Turtles in Time, now on Xbox live, and coming soon to PSN. So, does TMNT: Turtles in Time live up to the previous game? Let's take a look.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled

TMNT boxTime for some nostalgia "re-shelled" with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled for Xbox Live. Whoa, now that was a mouth full. Despite the long title, this is a game I am looking forward to playing once it hits Xbox live, which it will have by the time you read this article. If you own a PS3, it will be coming to PSN later in the year, so don't fret too much.

Remember when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time was the game to play at the arcades? If you were like me, you dropped many quarters in the machine. That's because many gamers agree, TMNT: Turtles in Time was the best ninja-turtles game ever made, and one of the best side-scrolling, beat-'em-up games of all time. So when it came out for the Super Nintendo, I bought it. But the coolest part about the arcade version was playing four player co-op, and I couldn't do that on the SNES. Thankfully, four-player co-op will be available over Xbox live. Players can then argue over who gets to be Michelangelo, the party dude. He was my favorite at least.

Story Line In TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled

Honestly, though, who cares about the story? Okay, maybe I'm a little curious to see how the cut scenes will look rendered in 3D.

The story in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled goes something like this: Using a robot suit, Krang steals the Statue of Liberty, while Shredder disrupts the airwaves and laughs at the turtles. They won't allow that. The Turtles kick Foot soldiers' butts in downtown New York, where Shredder shows up and sends them flying into a time warp. In the past and the future, they must fight Shredders' army to make it back home, to the sewers, the most logical place for ninja turtles to live.

Gameplay In TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled

For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, the game designers redesigned everything in 3D, from backgrounds to bosses, allowing players to experience Turtles in Time Re-Shelled like never before. The ninja turtles will be back flipping and bashing ninjas in fully rendered 3D awesomeness. The change to 3D slightly alters the gameplay. In the new version of the game, you can only attack enemies that are directly in front of you, the way it should be. However, even if a ninja is standing above your turtle, you can smack him upside his head by pressing up on the controller and pressing the attack button--plow!

You can use all the ninja turtles' great moves from the original game, such as basic attacks, slam attacks, a special attack, and a shoulder block. The best move, though, is throwing the enemies into the screen. I can't wait to see how that looks with the new graphics.

Also, I can't wait to see the new decked out bosses in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, which are based on the arcade game.

For those unfamiliar with the game, you play as one of four ninja turtles: Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Donatello has long-range slower attacks, Michelangelo and Raphael have short-range lightning fast attacks, and Leonardo falls somewhere in the middle.
