Bioeconomy is a term widely used to report the economic impacts that are in existence because of the use of biotechnology applications.

With all the applications and uses for biotechnology, there is bound to be a lot of economic activity that comes about because of it. The production of pharmaceuticals and other biotechnology products, as well as the effects that it has on our agricultural and industrial fields are bound to have a significant impact on our economy.

When you hear the term bioeconomy, it is referring to all activity derived from biotechnology applications that impacts and influences our economy. It encompasses such areas as:

·         Scientific and research activity that is focused on understanding the processes and mechanisms at both the molecular and genetic levels.

·         The application of using this information, applying it to an industrial process, and using it interchangeably along with biotechnology.

In a broader sense, the idea of bioeconomy refers to the total evolution of biotechnology applications and the uses it has in the fields of agriculture, farming, chemical industries, energy industries and health industries. This term is also widely used among international organizations, development and regional agencies and biotechnology research companies. It is closely tied to the biotechnology industry and its evolution as whole. Because of the ability for people to understand and study various genetic materials, it is possible through the use of biotechnology applications to manipulate the genetic material to create further scientific breakthroughs and advances in the technology progress.

It is expected that the economy will continue to be impacted as the advances and uses of biotechnology applications continue to grow and expand into different industries. There are many on-going studies and research being conducted on how the use of biotechnology applications can have a positive impact on the economy through the ability to improve different modalities in the industries such as medical advances, agricultural advances and technological advances. Much of the success of common pharmaceuticals, food and crop production and other products is due largely in fact to the increased use of biotechnology applications and the positive results that have been shown and continue to be used.

Bioeconomy also encompasses the total output of the biotechnology applications and investments that were used to implement and be able to use the various techniques and methods of biotechnology. It is all types of biotechnology applications that have impacted the economy and will continue to as further and constant research is done in all areas.
