Encamp - Basecamp on iPhone is an iPhone application that keeps the user connected to the project work regardless where the user is ant any given point in time.

Encamp - The ToolRating Average

Encamp cannot be more simplistically defined than as a native Basecamp-on- iPhone application for managing the projects which are handled using Basecamp itself. The most striking feature is wherever one may go, one will always remain connected with the project work on hand. This is particularly designed for mobile users, who want access at all times to the project for doing multiple tasks like assigning duties, delegating responsibilities, offering instructions for unfinished tasks, posting messages, recording and validating feedbacks and comments and adding time with an easy-to-handle optimization feature.

Distinct advantage of EncampRating Good

The distinct advantage of Encamp is there is absolutely no no need to bother synchronization as all communications are immediately reflected in the area which is directly related to project team activity and everyone concerned is updated on the changes or revised plans. All these excellent features made possible by a simple and yet powerful user interface. Encamp Screenshot taken from Encamp Website

Encamp combines Basecamp's user interface and iPhone features to provide great working comfort to all managers of Basecamp projects. The Projects tab is the most critical place where you can view all the projects on account and focus to view and edit the messages, pending tasks, and other information associated with the project.

Other salient features of EncampRating Good

  • Availability of a well-designed dashboard to access an overview of latest developments
  • Facility to view both current as well as archived projects with a to-do appraoch flexibility
  • Categorization of all messages with provision to create and delete messages and post remarks
  • Provision to create and delete items, reorder items and track time
  • Monitoring milestones
  • Time management (Still in Beat Stage)
  • Communication through e-mail, mapping colleagues and clients, recording iPhone addresses

Encamp – user reviewRating Below Average

Like other tools, Encamp does have certain limitations. If there is any file related to a particular project, you can not view it using Encamp. Nor can you get to access to any attachments which entail task related messages or any other critical project information. As Encamp is new application in its infantile stage, it is expected that future versions will include the ability to see file attachments.

Information loading and syncing activity on Encamp is fairly fast but it would have also been better if there was some way to get a fair connection between the projects without constantly having to rely on the level from where the project was started or the project at top level. Although it’s a disadvantage, it’s minor and it doesn’t have much impact on the overall good performane of Encamp.

The one complaint with Encamp is it indiscriminately attempts to synchronize everything locally to the phone. Theoretically great however it may sound, but time required for local synchronization procedure could be more than expected and it becomes tedious to wait for long. In today’s age and time speed is the key to all successful applications. Another drawback of Encamp is that it is susceptible to crashes or clashes (whatever you call). It cannot accommodate more than a certain specified number of projects. I am not sure what the specified number is but if we believe the users reviews, it’s in the range of 30s.

ConclusionRating Average

No matter the number of drawbacks it has, it has been proved as a great alternative to Outpost – Basecamp – on – iphone. Local synchronization may make it disadvantageous but it is the fact the data syncing on Encamp is fastest of all the iphone basecamp project application with data syncing features. And above all, it is handy - at least users can rely on it for its exclusive features with API enabled interface.Screenshot taken from Encamp Website

The Encamp application is truly in conformity with all typical iPhone application. This has made the application user-friendly and it hardly takes time to get familiar - a well-conceived and effective iPhone solution that fulfills a long-felt need. As no information is caught on the iPhone, Encamp obviously requires a steady and reliable network connection.

Encamp accesses information on Basecamp very quickly although much depends on the speed of the network. If people are searching for a really effective Basecamp solution, then Encamp is undoubtedly the answer.

Viewing To Do or Milestone Comments on Encamp
I can't. Every time I try to see comments on a To Do or Milestone on my iPhone Encamp crashes. Anyone else seeing this?
