XPlanner is marketed as a tool to aid businesses with project planning and tracking. It says it includes virtual note cards, support for recording and tracking projects, and online time tracking and time sheet generation. It's hard to tell since I could not even get passed the installation process.
The usability of this program is difficult to rate since I could not get past the download stage. After a half-dozen attempts at downloading and then installing the program, I sent the information to my husband, who is very proficient with computers, and he got the same result. It downloaded to my computer but I could not complete the installation process.
The website does not offer any information about operating systems that support the program. I ventured into the forum where I found more confused users. None of the questions posted were answered by anyone from the software company, and one poster even questioned if the company was even still in existence since there seemed to be no response from anyone. The latest version of the software was dated 5/23/06, so one has to wonder if it is an active site.
I vowed that I wouldn't give up and continued digging for some more information about the installation process and found mention that XPlanner must run on a servlet 2.4 compatible container such as Tomcat5.0+. So, I hit the web and found the Tomcat information. Initially I was not impressed as the first page of search returns were filled with "help, I can't get Tomcat to run properly" types of pages. I downloaded the program and again, could not for the life of me figure out how to install the program.
Now, I'm sure there is a computer genius out there somewhere who may be able to figure this all out. I am someone who runs my own freelance business out of my home. I do not have time to spend hours trying to figure out how to install a piece of software that is supposed to make my business life easier. If the installation is this difficult and there is an obvious lack of support from their website, one wonders about the reliability of the program if you are able to get it installed.
