This article reviews PMX, a Mac Based project management software.
What is PMX?
JTech Softwork's PMX is a shareware project management application for MAC OS X version 10.3.x or higher. It allows users to manage resources as well as track time and cost for projects. The cost after the initial 30-day trial period is $59.95. They accept money through PayPal. It should be noted that the website for the company that makes PMX, JTech Softworks did not work at the time of this writing, The program offers a generous help file, however, further technical support may be hard to come by.
What does PMX do?
PMX performs basic project management software functions. It allows the project manager to:
- Track multiple projects, deadlines and tasks
- View resources
- Run an Overbook report
- Create a PERT Chart
- View the Gantt Chart
- Customize the Toolbar
- Track resource assignments
- Track the project budget
- Import and export from: ToDo, iCal, and Excel
- Export items to PDF Format
- Create Effort Modeling
- Level Resources
The program is easy to navigate but seems clunky at times compared to other project management software such as Project or Vertabase.
Is PMX for you?
I would not suggest PMX. There are other options for project management software for Macintosh users. PMX, while relatively inexpensive at 59.95, is limited in its functions. It might not offer technical assistance (the company's website is unavailable). You can find trial versions of this software elsewhere on the internet (including the CNET link provided above), The only reason I can see for using this project management software for your Mac is if your budget is an issue. Because there are better options out there, I suggest using those options. For information on Macintosh software that might better suit your needs, I suggest reading:
