In order for software engineering consultants to create a new application for a company, they must first build an accurate, complete mental model of the business. First, the consultants must make a few assumptions and operate on them until they gather enough facts to prove the assumptions true or false. Second, they need to gather enough information to form a list of project requirements. From this list of requirements, they can form a structure of the proposed project.
This is a sample Gathering Requirements report for a software engineering project. To find out more about this template and how to use it, see Ann Gordon's article Gathering Requirements for a Feasibility Study.
