The steps to create both networks are similar. The steps are:
1. Create an activity list: These are the list of activities within the project that need to completed so that the project can be closed. The image below illustrates an activity list.
2. Create a Precedence Diagram: This is a project network diagram that illustrates the activity flow in the project. The dependencies between each activity are clearly identified. The image below illustrates a Precedence diagram.

3. Assign estimates for each activity: The estimated time to complete each activity.
4. Identify the critical path: The longest activity execution path within the network diagram.
5. Calculate the float of each activity: The slack of each activity in the project network diagram.
Those of you, who have read the series of articles on the Critical Path Method, will know that these steps are typically followed while using the Critical Path Method. The key difference lies in Step 3 (Assign estimates for each activity).
