Now that you have your web site, you have started to establish your expertise in your field, and you know the basics of using web based media to help push your business out there, what could be left right? Well, one of the major keys to keeping your home business alive and well in the business market is networking. Yes, even home business owners need to network just like the big corporation owners do. But, it is a bit different for home business owners than it is for others.
When you start networking for your home business, you want to start
out by finding online publications and groups that either revolve around your business or that have clients that you cater to. There will be a ton of them, and you do not have to contact them all, so don't worry. But, you want to have a list of at least 10 that you want to contact or join that will help you bring in clients that are in your target market. You don't have to necessarily go for the biggest fish in the networking pond, instead, I would recommend that you go for some of the smaller or medium sized groups. These groups will have the participation levels that you need, yet still be small enough that your messages will be seen by just about everyone out there. Start out by sending out a few messages that tell a bit about who you are and what you do. Don't start pushing your business right away, that will make you seem like a pushy salesman that no one wants to deal with. Instead, start out by telling a bit about you. Sell yourself before you start to sell your business and your services. This way, people will feel like your friend and like they know you personally instead of feeling like you are just another online salesman.
Next, you want to actually take the time to join a couple of the larger social networking sites. I recommend MySpace and Facebook. While these seem more like personal networking sites, you will be amazed at how easy it will be to gain friends on these sites and how you can easily search out those people who fit into your target market. These sites are full of people from all over the world who you can market to and network with, and if you do it right – they won't even know that you're trying to sell your services to them! Now, I would recommend that you take the time to set up your MySpace and Facebook personally, even if you have no idea how to write HTML codes. You can easily find free layouts for both sites online that you can customize and add to your pages. By doing this personally, it will make your pages feel personal – instead of businesslike. The people that are on MySpace and Facebook want to know that they are talking with real people, not salespeople, so it is all in how you present yourself, and your business.
Now that
you know two main basics of online networking for your home business, you can go from there. These two tips will help you build up a huge network of potential clients faster than you can imagine and they will also help to bring credibility and expertise to your home business as well.
