Microsoft Office 2007 comes in seven editions. There are editions for students, for users with very basic needs (word processing and e-mail), for small business owners, and for large corporations. The Enterprise edition is best suited for large enterprises and you probably don’t need it. However, there are a few applications you might find interesting, and if you think you’ll use them, might be worth the investment.
Here are the programs you’ll find in Enterprise:
One Note - OneNote comes with the Home and Student and the Enterprise editions of Microsoft Office 2007. Basically, it’s a digital notebook. If you have
it installed on a Tablet PC you can use it to store and manage handwritten notes. You can also scan written information, record lectures, and collaborate using OneNote's collaboration tool (like Whiteboard).
Outlook with Business Contact Manager - This is a souped-up version of Outlook. You may want this if you need to manage sales leads, marketing activities, track customer activity, track appointments, create custom mailing lists, and perform similar tasks. This would be a good investment if your home office is actually your car.
InfoPath - InfoPath can be used to create forms, really, really nice forms. If that’s your thing, you need InfoPath.
Communicator – You’ll use this program to improve communications between you and your coworkers. Several communication methods are supported including e-mail, instant messaging, VoiP, and more. Communicate lets you more easily communicate in real time with others.
Integrated Enterprise Content Management – This application is related to SharePoint Server 2007. With it you can protect documents, records and content you have available on the Web.
Electronic Forms – Used with InfoPath to create electronic forms. You can insert these forms in documents and applications, and create sophisticated and custom forms.
Information Rights Management and
Policy Capabilities – This application help companies protect their data. It can help a company name who can open, modify, or print data, create policy statements and insert them in e-mail messages, and more.
Groove – This is collaboration software and provides digital workspaces. Groove includes tools that facilitate communication and supports 28 languages.
