New moms can find it quite difficult to manage time, so here are some tips on managing time as a new mom.

Time Management for New Moms

Becoming a new mom changes everything. You’ll have endless nights of sleeplessness, people (meaning well) stopping by unexpected to see the baby, immunizations that make the baby even more cranky, painful teething, and stretches of crying just for attention. Time management for moms might seem impossible, but it can be done. You could get lost in the world of diapers, pacifiers, naps, and getting woken up all night. That world will end even though it may seem like it never will right now. Enjoy this time while it lasts. Enjoy it better by learning these easy time management techniques specifically for new moms.

What is Time Management?

Time management is when you plan to use your time for constructive activities. Time management allows you to get the most out of the time you have each and every day. Using time management techniques will allow you to use your time more effectively.

Time Management Techniques

Time management techniques are easy to learn, even for new moms. Here are some basic time management techniques that you can start using immediately:

  • Set some goals (what would you like to accomplish this year?)
  • Create smaller goals for large goals (steps to get to the larger goal)
  • Set aside time to plan (maybe get a babysitter or use time when baby is sleeping)
  • Set your priorities (you have some goals, but which are the most important?)
  • Create a schedule for yourself (It’s possible, but it will be flexible)
  • Get help (delegate some tasks to others such as an older child, your spouse, anyone that can help)
  • Laugh often!

Before you take on a brand new responsibility ask yourself if it is appropriate. Do you have the time required for this? Do you have enough on your plate right now? Can it wait? How important is this new responsibility? Think it through before you take on something new. While we’re on the subject, are there any responsibilities you have now that you could cut back on?

Set a schedule for your baby (even though it won’t always be followed). Feeding times, nap times, play times, and sleep should all be on a schedule. Use these time management techniques for new moms to help you make the most of your time.
