Layoffs are staggering and more people are becoming unemployed. With no jobs in sight in the near future these people are getting creative. People are going back to creating items or services to sell and opening up their own businesses. Many are rediscovering their passion.

Staggering Statistics

Unemployment is becoming an epidemic in this country. People are losing their jobs and getting laid off. Businesses are closing. A story caught my eye the other day about a 90 year old man who had to go back to work. It is saddening. Ian Theirmann was retired, but was forced to get a job after he lost his life savings to Bernard Madoff. Ian was worth about $700,000 and is now working at a grocery store. This story struck a cord in me, because it seems like right now, this could happen to any of us.

Currenlty, (although it may change as I'm writing this) the unemployment rate is is 7.6 % with over 11 million people unemployed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Getting Creative

People are job searching all over the country, and many are just giving up. The jobs just aren't there. So, people get creative about ways to earn a living. Many are opening up their own home businesses based on their passions and skills to generate some income. It is not always an easy way to earn money, but it is working for some. Without a lot of money to spend on advertising, promotions, marketing, and building all of that work is falling into the hands of the person opening a home business. People are coming together by asking favors from friends and family to help them advertise and market their home business.
