X-Axis: The horizontal plane on a computer display screen. X-coordinates refer to specific points on the x-axis, which on a computer display screen are counted or identified by a specific number of pixels. For example, x-coordinate 5 would be 5 pixels left of pixel 0, which is located at the extreme left corner of the computer screen.
XML: XML, or Extensible Markup Language, is a coding language similar to HTML, the common language of webpages, but offers more functionality for processing the information contained on webpages as data. XML is able to make use of tags that identify particular parts of the information as a certain type of data; <phonenum> would tell a computer that the information following the <phonenum> tag is a phone number.
XnView: An image editing program, XnView is freeware for non-commercial users. It offers a good selection of image editing tools, from adjusting brightness and contrast to cropping to applying special effects.
X Key: The key on the keyboard which contains the letter X, when used in combination with the CTRL button, executes the "cut" function of the clipboard. The cut function removes the selected text/data from the document being edited but holds it on the clipboard; follwing CTRL + X with CTRL + V will cause the selected text/data to be pasted wherever the cursor is pointed.
X Operating System: Known as Mac (or Macintosh) OS X, this operating system offered by Apple is a good balance of friendly, sleek usability and time-tested, well-built, powerful and secure UNIX structure. Mac OS X has become popular as an alternative to Windows, and has also maintained that popularity by providing a fully featured operating system which is compatible for file exchange with other types of systems.
Yahoo: Yahoo is an internet service provider, email client provider, social networking site, search engine, and general information, network, news, and multimedia website. It has been a decent competitor with AOL and has continued to expand its offerings, update its image, and grow as an online giant.
Y-Axis: The vertical plane on a computer display screen. The standard scrollbar of a web browser, for example, runs on the Y-axis. Y-coordinates refer to particular points on the y-axis, and, like x-coordinates, are identified by pixel number.
Y-Splitter: A y-splitter is a cable that provides two spaces for cables (such as headphones) to plug in to on one end and a single cable male end on the other, so that two pairs of headphones could be used one mp3 player.
