The Letter Q

Queue: For the home office worker, a queue can be two things. The first refers to a queue in computer terms: it is a particular order or work that is waiting to be processed. The second is a queue in more common terms: the next work duties to be performed, projects to be completed, or tasks to be finished for the home office worker. For home office workers who are freelancers, keeping track of what's in the work queue can be challenging. Many projects overlap, deadlines might be on the same day, or the scope of a project might be expanded unexpectedly.

Query: A query is a question sent out by a computer, or computer user, via a search engine or database search function. In search engine terms, the query might be as simple as a single word or it might be in the form of a question. In database searches, the query might be a data query, which simply finds and retrieves information, or it might be an action query, which attaches a command to be performed on the information that is found.

Quicken: Quicken is one of the premier financial management software programs available to the home office worker. It can be used to track home finances, to track multiple accounts, for a small business, or for a combination of these functions. It can be somewhat confusing for a first-time user, as it contains an Accounts system, Data files, a several different "centers" which focus on different aspects of financial management. Once you understand the organization, however, Quicken can be an invaluable tool for tracking your financial action, creating reports, keeping track of budgets and bills, invoicing clients, and planning for investments.

Quiz: A frequent feature of websites, a quiz is an interactive module that asks questions and allows the user to choose answers. Answers can be given in many forms: via a button format, a drop-down box, or a fill-in-the-text area. Most quizes offer multiple-choice with a radio-button style method of choosing answers. Online quizzes range from the academic to the absurd, and can be powerful tools for marketing analysis, customer interaction, or powerful ways to waste time when you should be working!

QWERTY keyboard: The most commonly used type of keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard is named for the letters which appear in the first six spaces, top row of letters, from the left.
