The style you want and need to apply most often may not be one of the choices in the Style Gallery. [See Image 1] For instance, your company letterhead or logo may contain a combination of specific fonts, font sizes, and font colors that you want to use regularly. Instead of having to configure the style each time, create a template, use Format Painter, or cut and paste from another document, just create the style you need and save it to the Gallery where it will always be accessible.
To create a Quick Style and then save it to the Gallery (this is in
Word 2007 but can be adapted to any Office application):
1. Open Word 2007.
2. Type some text in a new document.
3. Select the text.
4. Format the text to the desired standards using the Home tab’s formatting options.
5. Right-click the formatted text (select it first), select Styles from the drop-down list, and click Save Selection as a New Quick Style.
6. In the Create New Style from Formatting dialog box, name the style and click OK.
7. To see the new style, click the down arrow, the one to the left of Change Styles on the Ribbon’s Home tab, and locate the style in the Gallery. [See Image 2]
To remove a style, right -click the arrow next to Styles in the Home tab, and click and the style and select Remove from Styles Gallery. This does not delete the style from your computer; the Change Styles pull-down menu will still list all of the styles in the document.
