Here are a few things that you should always avoid putting in your editing room.

Bay

Your editing bay, which may be as simple as the computer in the corner of your bedroom, is your laboratory for creating films. This is possibly the most important section of video equipment, both because it likely cost in total more than any other piece of video equipment and also because this is where you really paste together your video project. Because of this you have to maintain a standard in this area by keeping it clean and protecting it from outside assault. There are a few things that are absolutely never supposed to be near your video editing system.

Food and Beverage

The first one is the most obvious. At no time are you supposed to have food or drinks near your editing computer. This is for a variety of reasons, but it is more important to watch this around a computer you are using for video editing because sensitive material is at stake and their tends to be more video equipment in the general vicinity. This is one of the most overlooked rules when it comes to maintaining your editing computer, but it just presents a situation where unnecessary accidents are inevitable.

Electromagnetic

You should try to keep excessively magnetic or electric objects away from your system. This includes things like cellular phones and refrigerator magnets. This may be an excessive rule as most of these things have a small chance of interrupting anything, but since it still remains possible it is best to avoid it in general.

Limit Competition

All other appliances and plugs need to be limited in the area. You will likely be plugging in capture cards, portable hard drives, cameras to your computer, exterior and secondary monitors, and tape decks so you will have a complex metropolis of electronic chords and equipment. You can blow a fuse or accidentally pull the wrong plug, both of which can be catastrophic to your video editing project.

Bright

Limit both the light and heat that are going to enter your location. It is best to not include your computer in an open sun area as this will complicate the image and leave the equipment open to interference from temperature.
