Vista Movie Maker 6.0 in Windows 7
PapaJohn - Thanks for your great series of articles on MM and Windows 7. They were very helpful to me. I've just "installed" Vista MM 6.0 on Vista RTM and it was a breeze.
Quick tip on registering the DLLs:
1. Open Command Prompt (in Accessories) by right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator".
2. Type in the following command: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\wmm2ext.dll" and press enter (include the quotes).
3. You'll receive a message that the operation was successful.
4. Repeat for the other dlls specified above.
Create a shortcut to Movie Maker on the Desktop or in your Start Menu, and off you go!
Thanks again - much appreciated!

Movie Maker 2.1 wasn't made in 1994... In 1994 we had Windows 3.1 (Windows 95 wouldn't appear until a year later), and Movie Maker just didn't exist (you had Microsoft Video for Windows which was a pay product and worked with AVI files).
You probably meant 2004, the date when SP2 for XP came out.

MM 6.0 in Win 7 x64
I've been able to get Vista's Movie Maker 6.0 (from Vista x64) to work in Win 7 RC x64 by registering all the .dll's in the Movie Maker folder. The video import wizard works, effects, transisitions, etc all work, and I can publish to PC or DVD.

The only problems I've had relate to nVidia's latest video driver, which buggers up some title effects. The video driver installed by Win 7 during initial installation works fine. Thanks for the inspiration to get this working!
