CorelDraw Graphics Suite X3 is a complete suite of graphic programs that lets you create professional-looking images, logos, and brochures, and capture and edit images. CorelDraw X3 has more cool tools, such as text handling, but the big draw for new users will be its documentation and how-to tips.

For $90, I expect a lot of art and a quality program to access and find them. This package delivers well on the art but disappoints on the application, with the huge omission of a search function.

Logo Design Studio Pro lets you design logos for your company or charity, or just for fun. This easy-to-use graphics program for slick 3D or 2D logos is an alternative to expensive and hard-to-use products like CorelDraw and Photoshop, offering vector graphics, raster, and print support.

If you're a photographer, artist, or anyone assembling a video with special effects, you will want morphing software in your bag of tricks. Morpheus will do the job in a pinch, but it does not stand up well against other morphing software.

Serif PagePlus X2 arrived in a nice-looking CD case with a small 150-page user guide. The professional software packaging seemed like a good omen. However, I had a frustrating few hours getting PagePlus X2 installed and functioning and its non-intuitive user interface only made matters worse.

Logo Design Studio Pro piqued my curiosity as I was not familiar with either SummitSoft or its product. Logo Design Studio Pro touts ease of use and incorporated design features to create your own professional corporate identity. Is it everything a small business owner would need, or just hype?

Morpheus Photo Animation Suite Standard does a great job of morphing animations. The creation process is both simple and fun. The results are quite pleasing. Unfortunately, it seems that making profit by up-selling and installing unwanted software may be more important for this company.

Microsoft Publisher 2007 surprised me. I always knew that Microsoft Publisher could help design stationery such as invitations and greeting cards. I just never realized the scope of the stationery it can produce, how easily it makes it, or the powerful tools that Microsoft Publisher 2007 offers.

Software like Art Explosion Publisher Pro begs this question: Can amateur desktop publishers find happiness riding the learning curve required in this type of mid-market publishing and page layout program? "Professional-looking results" is one thing, but to my mind, nothing beats ease of use.
