  • Reader Question on Installing Fonts in Microsoft Word

After I download and run, then what?  I open the file and get the example page. How do I get the font into Work's word processor?

How you install a font depends on the operating system your computer uses:

    • Windows Vista: Right-click on the font files > "Install"
    • Windows XP: Put the font files into C:\Windows\Fonts
    • Mac OS X: Double-click the font file > "Install font" button. Alternatively, put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users), or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

When downloading fonts, they are typically compressed into a .zip file to save space. To uncompress the file in Vista, you can navigate to the folder where you've downloaded the .zip file, right click and select 'Extract All'. You then select where you want to place the uncompressed font file, find it in the selected folder, and right click on the font file and select 'Install'.
