You know what they say, no such a thing as dumb question! And yes, it's true that the nuts and bolts of desktop publishing (DTP) involves creating something and printing it from a computer, but desktop publishing is really a broad term that can refer to many possible scenarios. For example, DTP can refer to a career path, with professionals who use InDesign or Quark to create slick publications. And DTP can refer to a craft project, with moms or pops creating photo calendars of the kids for the grandparents. And, of course, there's every sort of desktop publishing challenge in between. This site, however, does not try to be all things to all DTP people; rather we're focusing on the small office/home office person, helping him or her find solutions to desktop publishing problems (see http://www.brighthub.com/multimedia/publishing/blog/archive/2008/05/19/welcome-to-the-desktop-publishing-channel.aspx my blog for more on this). And look for a more in-depth piece to publish later this week that answers the broad question of 'What Is Desktop Publishing' more thoroughly. I will post the URL here when it is live as well. Thanks for asking!
