If you are having problems with your Publisher program, chances are it needs to be updated. This article teaches you how to update Publisher and avoid any future issues.

Before doing anything check your Window system to see if the Automatic Updates are turned on. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Control Panel, select Security. Your security options will open in the same window.
  2. Under the heading Security Center, click Turn automatic updating on or off. The Change Settings dialog box will open with your choices. They are Install updates automatically, Download updates and let me choose whether to install them, and Check for updates and let me choose whether to download and install them. (You can also select Never check for updates, but of course this is not recommended.)
  3. Select Install updates automatically.
  4. Under Install new updates, set the schedule you would like your system to check for updates.
  5. Check the box under Recommended Updates to include updates when downloading, installing, or being notified about updates.
  6. Click OK to save your changes and close the Control Panel window.

Or…

If you are in an open Publisher program, click Help and then Check for updates. A window will open in your default browser beginning with the words, "Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site." Although this message may seem somewhat confusing or unclear at first, it simply says:

  • If Internet Explorer is your default browser, it must be version 5 or later. To upgrade your current version, visit the Downloads page of the Internet Explorer website and follow the instructions given.
  • If another browser is your default, visit the Microsoft Download Center to acquire the needed updates. Once on this page, click Download Categories, then Windows Security and Updates. The Windows Security and Updates page will open with tons of updates. To narrow down your results, type “publisher updates” into the Bing search box located at the top of the page. When your new options load, click on the update that is compatible with your version of Publisher.

Conclusion

To ensure maximum safety and operation of your Publisher program, it is vital to keep it regularly updated. Following the steps above will only take a few minutes and save you from possible problems in the future.
