Changing Proofing Options in Word

Within only a few minutes you can customize your proofing options in Word, making your project easier and and saving yourself a load of time! Learn how!

To begin, click the Office button located in the upper left-hand corner of the window. Located near the bottom of the box click Word Options. The Word Options dialog box will open, click Proofing. There will be four sections:

Autocorrect Options

Upon clicking this option the Autocorrect dialog box will open displaying five tabs: AutoFormat, AutoCorrect, Math AutoCorrect, Smart Tags, and AutoFormat as you type. You can change how the Word program corrects your errors as you type, set it to automatically create bulleted lists, and insert hyperlinks into your document. This is a very handy feature. You can type your document freely without revising as you write because the autocorrect tool will do this for you.

When Correcting Spelling in Microsoft Office Program

There are a variety of check boxes here. Your options are pretty straightforward. Check the boxes that correspond with the actions you would like your word program to perform. This option is great if creating a document in a foreign language, not only does it correct the grammar and spelling, it also makes sure the accents are properly placed.

When Correcting Spelling and Grammar in Word

Here will be more check boxes. You can decide if would like Word to track spelling and grammar errors as you type or if you would prefer to wait until you have completed your document. In addition to changing your writing style, there is a Settings button. Clicking it will open the Grammar Settings dialog box allowing you to make more specific changes.

Exceptions

If you would like to exclude any Word documents, open and closed, you can do it here. If you would like your changes to only affect the document in which you are working, click the corresponding check box.

After you have made all the desired changes, just click OK and you’re done!
