Designing your own business card is an important part of your marketing strategy. Odds are you will find yourself giving your card to everyone you meet in a professional capacity. And your business card will also get passed around behind your back. You want your cards to be a solid representation of your company and its image. It has to be right. If you want to get it right, then this article can help you.
Logo
Your logo should factor into the card. Choose a corner or the top center and place it. Be sure that the size is no more than 1/5th of your overall card size. You maybe able to get away with 1/4th if your logo doubles as your name on the card. Your logo will need to be easy enough to be seen at the small size required by the card. If you have a very detailed logo that you are not willing to give up you may have to simplify the logo in some way.
Contact Information and Font
Now add your contact information. This can include your phone number, cell phone number, email, and/or your website URL. Choose a font that complements the rest of your marketing materials. If you did not have any other materials yet, play around with different fonts until you get one that works. Here are some tips:
- Don’t go too ornate, it will be hard to read at small sizes. You should choose a clear font. A good test is to print out the font at size 8 and hold it at arms length. If it is clear then you have the go ahead to use it on the card. If you cannot read it easily, then try another. If you want to save time, then print many fonts on one sheet to make a comparison.
- White space still matters, but not as much on a card. Use larger fonts for readability.
- Choose a font that is in sync with your business image. Use your best judgment.
Printing
You can print on your printer or hire a service to print them professionally. Yes, printing at home will be cheaper, but the perforation lines will be obvious. You can find an inexpensive printing from companies like Staples.
