When the 4th of July rolls around, it brings with it opportunities for quite a few desktop publishing projects. Whether you're putting together an invitation for a barbecue or laying out a poster announcing fireworks, having a few Independence Day fonts can come in handy.

USA Flag

USA Flag

The USA Flag typeface combines the stars and stripes in one font. The characters have a bold style, ideal for headlines and highlighting important information like locations and dates. However, setting lengthy pieces of text in this typeface may be less useful as it will be hard to read. It's also advisable to avoid setting this font very small — the stripes within each character are attractive but can make them difficult to identify in small sizes. The lower case letters are identical to the upper case. The font does have numerals but only offers a partical set of punctuation marks and symbols.

Bodie MF Flag

Bodie MF Flag

If you compare Bodie MF Flag to USA Flag, you'll notice significant similarities — they both use stars and stripes to create a patriotic feeling. However, Bodie MF Flag has a more cartoonish appearance due to less precise designs of the letterforms and an uneven baseline. The font is primarily useful for headlines — it could be paired effectively with a more traditional sans-serif font in desktop publishing projects. The typeface contains upper case letters, numerals and some punctuation marks.

Independence

Independence

With Independence, you can add sparkle to any project. Each letter has at least one star incorporated into the design. The effect makes these characters stand out, although a little caution may be needed in using it as the 'c' and 'e' are difficult to tell apart. The typeface has a complete set of lower case letters and numerals, but does not offer upper case letters. It does offer some punctuation marks.

While the US Flag font is actually comprised of dingbats, rather than letters, it offers up different versions of the American flag as well as stylized maps. These images can be used in a desktop publishing project instead of needing to hunt down other images that work with a 4th of July theme.
