Home-office power usage is part of the carbon problem. At first it may seem like there’s nothing you can do to help reduce your carbon usage, but in actuality there are several things you can do to reduce the amount of carbon you put into the air each and every day.
- Replace standard light bulbs with CFC lightbulbs. These not only use less energy to produce the same amount of lighting, but they will also last longer than a standard lightbulb.
- Turn things off when they are not in use. The biggest offender for most professionals are their lights and their computer. Office Equipment
- Consider previously owned office furniture and equipment. Getting office equipment either through a secondhand shop, or through group like freecycle, not only reduces the amount of garbage in landfills, but saves you money. You may be able to find quality desks, chairs, and even peripheral devices like printers at a steal secondhand.
- Don’t throw out old, but functional, equipment and office supplies. If you do not want listed on the site like freecycle, you can always donate functional equipment to organizations like GoodWill. This way their old office chair can have a second life enhances somebody who really appreciate it. Depending on the laws where you live, you may also be able to get a tax break for that donation.
